Five Days a Week?

For over two years, I have posted on this blog EVERY SINGLE DAY. Originally this started because I wasn’t working and had a lot of time on my hands to blog. Even after I went back to work, I’d grown so accustomed to blogging every day that I continued.

Lately, though, I’ve been really thinking about the content of this blog as well as my life and my priorities. Why Girls Are Weird is my baby and a huge part of my life. I’ve made so many friends because of this blog, had my eyes opened to new things and I love being able to write about my life and the things I love.

Right now, I’m considering going down to 5 days a week, Monday through Friday. I’m considering this because my content on the weekends is mostly memes and Happy Saturday (which could easily be changed to Happy Friday). I have less readers on the weekends and I think that if I didn’t blog on the weekends I’d have better content during the week.

I need some advice readers! What is your opinion on not blogging during the weekends? What do you think about Why Girls Are Weird only having 5 weekly posts vs. 7? Do you read during the weekend and would you be sad if I didn’t post during the weekend?

Let me know! I truly value all of your opinions!

I read all of your posts, but I rarely comment on the weekend ones just because I'm usually just reading through ALL of my weekend posts by people – it's way to time consuming on Monday to comment on 20-30+ posts. If you go to 5 days a week, I'm fine with it, but more than that – if you want to do it for yourself, just do it! We'll all still be here reading!

I think you should go down to 5 days, but that is just my opinion. I rarely read blogs over the weekend and I think a lot of people are the same way, especially with spring and summer coming, but either way it is up to you… cause I love reading your blog!

Even though i'm not working I mainly stick to posting just Monday to Friday [if I have a tag post I though it out on a weekend]. Mainly for the reasons you've stated – views are less on a weekend and it's just generally a lot quieter out there on the blogging world. Plus at the weekend, while I'll read blogs I'd rather spend the time being with my boy. After being apart for the most of two years I just want to spend that time focusing on him. It also makes me focus a lot more on my posts and what i'm publishing – have five days to post five interesting/different things.

    sorry for the ramble!!

I think you need to set your blogging schedule to one that suits you. The minute you start forcing yourself to blog it makes it feel like work – definitely not a good thing! :/

  5. says

I agree! Everyone deserves a weekend off, even bloggers :) I know that I only blog M-F unless it's football season, then a Sunday post is a must. hahaha

  6. says

i definitely think you need to take the weekends off to recharge!! i usually do only 5 days a week… w/ the occasional weekend post but it doesn't usually get as much readership because i think most ppl are taking a break from blog reading then too!

  7. says

I think it is up to u. I check out blogs on saturdays but i never check the saturday posts because they are not actual written content (i get the idea behind it but would be disappointed if u moved it to fridays, taking away 1 day a week). I totally understand the need to recharge, you can also schedule the posts.

  8. says

I think posting 5 days a week is still really impressive. Plus, I agree that it would allow you to focus on each post a little more. Quality over quantity!

  9. says

I think you should post however much you are comfortable with. It sounds like you are leaning towards the 5 so I think you should go for it! You can always switch back if you miss the weekend posts :) xx

  10. says

I think you should blog when the content seems right no matter how many days it ends up being so if some weeks that's 7 days and another week that's 4, it doesn't matter. I don't always comment but I go in spurts with reading so I don't read in real time all the time so if you skipped weekends, it wouldn't affect me. Have fun!

  11. says

I vote for cutting down for 5 days. Not that I dont love what you post, but you need time for yourself! I dont really read blogs on the weekend and it seems like traffic is wicked slow on Saturday and Sunday anyway.

  12. says

I hardly ever read on the weekends. I'd just rather be out enjoying life. I usually read one or two days but almost always during the week. So I'm all for 5 days a week! It's what I've done, for the most part, for almost a year now.

  13. says

As someone who works nearly 80 hrs a week, I find little time to read my favorite blogs and get overwhelmed when I see 5-10 new posts in my reader from those who blog frequently. As much as I love your posts, 5 days a week sounds great!

  14. says

I do read on the weekend, but we aren't always able to post then either…The weekend is more of a we post when we can schedule. Do what feels right!

  15. says

I think whatever works best for your schedule is the way to go. I blog twice a week, and honestly just post my new post whenever I have time. I've always wished I could stick to a regular schedule (posting on the same days each week) but sometimes I travel for work and I just need to get it out before I won't be able to for a few days, etc! I think since I leave each post up for a few days, at least there will be plenty of time to view. So I think it's mainly what works for you – but why not give yourself the weekends off? :)

  16. says

    i think it's a good idea to take a break :)
plus you can always think of something super cool to blog about because you're out doing it and not sitting on the computer thinking about what to blog about!

  17. says

Do whatever works best for you! I like taking the weekends off from blogging–it just makes me feel more relaxed to not schedule something.

  18. says

I want to read what comes from your heart, so that's however often works and feels god for you :) Personally, I don't necessarily read blogs everyday. I subscribe using Google Reader and make my way through the new blog posts as my schedule permits, so I don't really notice posting frequency too much (unless it's posting a million times a day, or a blog that hasn't posted something new in weeks).

  19. says

i find that when i'm offline during the weekends, i'm more recharged for the week! sometimes i still blog on weekends but i do it just because – for personal reasons and not necessarily because i have more readers. whatever you feel like, you should go for it! :)

  20. says

I say keep blogging as frequently as you're comfortable! I think it's only a problem when you feel like you have an obligation to blog, like you HAVE to blog. Don't get burned out, but keep writing and we'll keep reading. :)

  21. says

Firstly, congratulations on posting every single day for 2 yrs. I don't know anyone else who has done that, I wouldn't be able to think of what to post that often, so I think its very creative and a fabulous achievement. I think 5 days would be good. It is still a lot and would give us time to catch up on your blog more. I often find that less people comment on the weekend too.

  22. says

five days a week sounds good to me! i read blogs pretty much every day, but don't post daily, so i think it's good to have some days without the blog:-) x

  23. says

I think if it works for you, then do it.

Personally, I don't blog on the weekends. Not only is the traffic on the site lower, but it's the WEEKEND! Have fun, recharge your battery!

  24. says

I'd say 5 times a week! Not because I don't enjoy reading your blog, but sometimes you have to take a little break. If you decide to post daily I'd still read it.

  25. says

Everyone here has awesome advice! And like them, I totally believe that you need breaks from your blog, otherwise, you get burnt out. I don't follow a schedule reading blogs. I read them when I can fit them in my schedule.

You'll know what to do sweetie! xoxo

  26. says

I think in the end it always boils down to what you can handle. If blogging 5 days a week is just more manageable to you (7 is quite an endeavor!) then I say go for it. I can barely post 3 times a week. But I try to stick to some semblance of a schedule.

Best of luck, but don't worry about us–we'll still follow you, love! XOXO

  27. says

I went from blogging every other day to blogging once a week to blogging NEVER. I hate that I have let that part of my life slip but I going to fight to get it back. I am starting by catching up on all the blogs I read. Starting with you.

I think 5 days a week is a great amount.
