I am not someone who listens to a lot of music when I’m going through rough times, the reason being that I feel like songs get ruined when you listen to them during those times.  Even when the rough times are gone every time you hear those songs you still remember all that hard stuff.

However, there has been a band that has been around, for me, since I was in 7th grade.  So I suppose I would say that as I was going through all those growing pains these were right along for the ride with me.

Dear Matchbox 20,

I fell in love with you guys back in 7th grade when your song Push hit the airwaves.  To this day I can hear that song and I am taken right back to my 7th grade homeroom, which is pretty cool because those were the days when everything was easy (even if it didn’t seem that way at the time).

I can go back through your albums and when I hear certain songs I am taken straight back to particular moments in my life.  Back 2 Good makes me think of the first boy I really liked and the very long distance “relationship” we had.  Both Rest Stop and Last Beautiful Girl make me remember back to the first boy I really loved and how amazing first love can be.  And Unwell and You’re So Real, well, those make me think of another guy, one who probably didn’t deserve my heart but had it for a very long time anyway.

I suppose you could say that your music was in the background during all of my relationships.  Some of your lyrics made me happy and I applied them to those happy times of being in love with someone.  Others still make me sad and remember those less than happy times after fights or breakups.

Nonetheless I can still listen to your albums and rock out, sing along and your songs never get old.  Thanks for providing a pretty darn good soundtrack for my life.  And Rob Thomas, you’re so much better with Matchbox 20.  Sorry!

Ah there's songs that remind me of my school days, not boys tho, i really wasn't that into boys in school! (i wasn't into girls either tho…in case you were wondering!)

I can relate to not wanting to listen to songs when you're down over and over again. I'm the same way, because then when I'm happy, I can't listen to those songs again because they just make me sad! =/
